Yes, there really was a Mr. Reid. He was J. Arthur Reid, in fact, that opened the original store in 1928 in Charlotte, NC, with a second location coming quickly in 1931. Reid’s was at one time a “green grocery” that added a meat department during WWII. That 5,000 square foot store, located in a carriage trade neighborhood, grew into a nationally awarded “2005 Specialty Foods Retailer of the Year”. The legacy continues today with a new location and a committment to customer service and outstanding product.
In 1931, Leroy Morrison went to work for his Uncle, Mr. Reid, and purchased the store in the mid 60’s. Leroy grew the business with service, quality products and the reputation - “if you can’t find it anywhere else, call Reid’s”, and that continues to be a phrase we adhere to.
This beautiful store houses one of the finest wine selections in Charlotte, a beautiful wine bar, an award winning butcher shop, gourmet foods "to go", fresh local produce and local foods from appetizers to desserts. Reid's also offers catering services, cooking classes, gift baskets and more.
The new store, at Selwyn Avenue and Colony Road in Charlotte, has as much the charm as the other locations, along with a new and modern approach. We hope you will visit Reid's soon.
