Today we are introducing wine #9 in our top 10 wines of the year list: 2013 Bagueri Ribolla Gialla. We hope you come see us to grab a bottle to enjoy this holiday season!

About The Estate

Slovenia lies in the heart of Europe, where the Alps meet the Mediterranean and the Pannonian plain. Slovenians refer to their country as "The Green Treasure of Europe", because it is small, unbelievably beautiful and GREEN! The "Goriska Brda" Wine Cellar manages 1200 hectares of vineyards in the Goriska Brda region.

About The Terroir

A sub-Mediterranean climate, a mixture of warm sea air and influence of cold Alpine winds, the grapes for Bagueri Ribolla Gialla were grown in four selected vineyards in Neblo, Višnjevik, Medana and Cerovo which best suit this variety. Located on the sunlit tops of the hills. The grapevines thrive in the typical marly soil of Brda, which is reflected in the wine's pronounced mineral touch.

About The Wine

The nose on this wine is unctuous and powerful, filled to the brim with ripe, fleshy peaches, apricots and saline tinged honey. The palate is textured and full but has a wonderful lift of acidity to keep it light and intriguing. A perfect wine for the fall and winter season and would make a natural match for the rich, butter and cream laden dishes.

Introducing Our Champagne of the Year: 2008 Louis Roederer Cristal Champagne

We are thrilled to announce our champagne of the year is the 2008 Louis Roederer Cristal Champagne, a quest for perfection spanning over two centuries! See below for more information on one of our very favorite bottles and come by to pick up yours today.

About The Estate

When Louis Roederer inherited the Champagne House in 1833, he took a visionary approach to enriching his vines, aiming to master every stage of the wine's creation. He forged the wine's unique style, character, and taste. In the mid-nineteenth century, Louis Roederer acquired some of Champagne's grand cru vineyards--an approach that contrasted sharply with contemporary practices. While other Houses bought their grapes, Louis Roederer nurtured his vineyards, familiarized himself with the specific characteristics of each parcel, and methodically acquired the finest land.

About The Terroir

"The right soil is the key to every great wine." In 1845, Louis Roederer acquired 15 hectares in the Grand Cru vineyards of Verzenay. Louis idea was to become a wine grower in order to master the entire process of creating his vintage wines. Now, the vineyards are located in three classic Champagne districts: the Montagne de Reims, the Vallée de la Marne, and the Côte des Blancs. The diversity and fertility of these sites provide our House with an extensive and rich palette from which to fashion the wines.

About The Wine

Time has worked its magic. Cristal is a giant with a patient heart. It is still brimming with youth, even after many long years spent resting in the cellars. The chalk has concentrated its texture and given it its unique energy and surprising depth. Its pure tension, opulence and remarkable persistence take it above and beyond any limits. It asserts its presence, flowing as sweetly as a mountain stream, yet structured by the strength and concentration of the vintage. The Cristal 2008 is deep, intense and masterful. It offers the quintessential reflection of its chalk soils which lend it its velvety texture and delicate tension.

CHAMPAGNE OF THE YEAR

DOMAINE PHILOPPONNAT

ROYALE RÉSERVE

Champagne Of The Year

STORY BEHIND THE LABEL

For almost five hundred years, the Philipponnat family has left its mark on the soils of the Champagne region. Generations of men and women have cultivated the lands of Ay, the family's home since the time of Apvril Philipponnat, who own lands at Le Leon, between Ay and Dizy in 1522. In the 16th century the family ancestors were winemakers and merchants, suppliers to the court of Louis XIV, and magistrates and Royal Mayors of Ay - a town which was directly dependent on the Crown since the era of the Countess of Champagne.

WINE

Royal Réserve Brut is the purest expression of the House's style. Offering a superb balance between structure, persistence and viscosity, this cuvée reveals the essential character of the Mareuil-sur-Ay. After three years aging on the lees, Royal Réserve is pleasantly matured while losing nothing of its freshness.

To the eye, the deep gold in color with amber glints lures you in to a delicate froth, lively and lingering. On the nose, the first aroma reveals vine blossom, linden and fresh toasted bread. After breathing, aromas of summer berries, citrus fruit and honey develop. There is a captivating mid-palate filled with red currants and raspberry; full-bodied and generous with the most fascinating freshly baked brioche taste that permeate the mouth... slowly asking for another sip.
